The amount of talent that adorns this world never fails to surprise us. An eight-year-old girl, whose name is Xóchitl Guadalupe Cruz López, showed us there’s nothing that can be said is “impossible.” In 2018, she was recognized as the first child to win the prestigious science prize from the National Autonomous University of Mexico. The seeds of keenness and curiosity about everything that revolves around science and technology were sown in this genius since she was only four years old. However, it was after the discovery of the water heater that her contribution in this field was duly acknowledged.
The award with which she had been commemorated, appreciates the unparalleled contribution of women in science, and in this particular case, for the solar water heater that she invented. The best part about the heater lies in the fact that it was entirely fashioned from castoff objects, including logs, hoses, and glass panels from an abandoned construction site. She chose her family’s rooftop as the construction site with some assistance from her father to ensure that whatever she creates is of top-notch quality. As per her statements, the project was fundamentally focused on reducing the raging impacts of climate change by decreasing the necessity of the reduced mass to rely on trees for firewood.

She said that low-income people who are not blessed with enough privilege to buy heaters during the winter resort to cutting down trees to derive firewood. Therefore, leading to the clearing of vast stretches of land, thereby catalyzing the mechanism of climate change and on some level, encouraging its repercussions. Therefore, to shut the doors on these negative prospects, Cruz Lopez initiated the project of crafting solar water heater from recycled objects to make sure that her vision doesn’t disintegrate the balance of the environment in any way.
Cruz Lopez, one of the youngest entrepreneurs from the Southern Mexican state of Chiapas, is trying to teach the truth that women and girls can carve their paths of success in a world that is primarily dominated by their male counterparts. The mission to rescue earth and entitle women to their rights and freedom are the burning issues of the present times. Owing to the changes that an eight-year-old girl is trying to bring about in the society, we can safely assert that it wouldn’t take long before we get to witness a world that is characterized only by the purest virtues that have ever existed.
The number of girls coming forward to explore the nuances of science is invariably rising by the day, and Cruz Lopez is actively exemplifying the reasons that explain why this participation of women will benefit the whole of humanity. According to the statistics submitted by Mexico’s national agency for science and technology, it showed that 36% of the people enrolled in the country’s scientific register are women. Therefore, there has been a 65% increase in the configuration since 2012.
